This closure is the result of a New York State Department of Transportation inspection, which found “severe deterioration” of the bridge’s steel girders.

The bridge, which is located toward the southern end of Mill Lane at the Parksville Road and Drake Road intersection, has a daily traffic count of around 140 vehicles.

As a result of the closure, motorists will be directed to take a detour using Route 44, Traver Road and Parksville Road.

The bridge has been operating under an 18-ton weight limit since last year, and the Department of Public Works has been crafting a design plan to improve and replace infrastructure. The $1.175 million replacement project is a part of the 2019 Bridge and Highway funding request, which is scheduled for presentation at the Dutchess County Legislature’s April board meeting.

Upon approval, the design plans will be finalized. The construction is expected to be completed in 2020.
